A better garbage disposal

There may be nothing a plumber loves more than a garbage disposal. They're pretty easy to replace (cha-ching) and they encourage bad practices that prevent your drains from running smoothly (again... cha-ching).

Most garbage disposal users don't correctly and consistently identify what items it should and shouldn't be used for. You get a taste of the power and next thing you know anything and everything is getting jammed down the kitchen sink. Potato peels? Obviously. Coffee Grounds? Why not. Egg Shells? But of course. Rice? It's so small, what could it hurt. Chicken bones? Send it, just this once. Before long, hubris overcomes you and bacon grease is being poured directly.

Unfortunately for us, there is a better and more affordable garbage disposal available. The lowly garbage can. Anything of size, any grease, any oil... put it in the actual garbage. Limit your sink to small food particles, soap, and water. That's it. That will save you time with a plunger or two and likely prevent a service call from your plumber down the road.

Next time your garbage disposal leaks or fails, consider removing it instead of replacing it. That said, the customer is always right, and we'll replace it with a brand new Insinkerator Badger 5 for our everyday low price of $320.

Bonus Tip: Start a compost bin if you want to divert some of your food waste and also feel guilty when you forget about it and all the Red Wigglers die
